Australia’s pioneering design centre, gallery and school for contemporary craft is delighted to bring together a new exhibition showcasing outstanding craft and design at Sturt Gallery & Studios.
COALESCE will celebrate the work of internationally acclaimed master weaver Jennifer Robertson, who creates her innovative work with state-of-the-art mineral fibres such as quartz fibre, titanium, basalt, copper, glass, carbon, stainless steel and pure silver. Jennifer has recently won the Award for Excellence at the International Fibre Art Biennale and is in collections all over the world, including the personal collection of the Her Majesty Queen of England.
COALESCE – a cultured interior showcasing innovation and excellence in craft and design – also brings together the work of Jennifer’s master craftsman partner, Chris Robertson, along with their son, furniture maker Timothy and another award-winning designer/maker Tom Skeehan, who will collaborate on the interiors. Katherine Mahoney is creating bespoke ceramics for the show.
“Australian Design Centre Artistic Director/CEO Lisa Cahill will open the show at 11am on Sunday 18th September. We are delighted that the exhibition will be part of Sydney Craft Week, celebrating the depth of design talent in Australia and supporting craftspeople in their practice. On the same afternoon at 2pm, all the artists will deliver an artist talk about their practice and their collaborations with fine furniture studios, in the same weaving studio where Sturt’s founder Winifred West started weaving classes during World War II in 1941.”
