Steve Horton Steps Down as Chair

The Chair of Business Southern Highlands, Steve Horton has decided to step down from the
Chamber.

Steve Horton has served on the Chamber’s board since the inception of the merging of the region’s
chambers into Southern Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He has been instrumental in aligning the Chamber with Business Illawarra, Business NSW and
Business Australia. As Business Southern Highlands, the organisation is positioned as the peak
organisation for business in the Southern Highlands providing a strong voice for business and
promoting the diverse business landscape across the region.

Steve has represented the Southern Highlands on the Business Illawarra Regional Advisory
Committee whose role is to develop and advise the Chamber movement on policy and economic
development across the Illawarra/Southern Highlands region. Steve will be staying on in this role and
will work with Business Southern Highlands in this regional capacity.

Steve has been a touchstone for many businesses experiencing the challenges of fire, drought, covid
and floods.  He has tirelessly represented business to local, state and federal levels of government.
Business Southern Highlands thanks Steve for his tireless contribution to the region and the
Chamber movement.

Steve leaves to focus on family and his consulting business.  We do however look forward to his
continuing involvement with Business Southern Highlands.

We welcome Carisa Wells back to the Board to serve as Chair. Carisa has been in small business for
thirty years and currently is the CEO/Director of Regional Development at Regional Development
Australia Southern Inland.   Carisa skills in leadership, policy development and negotiation skills will
well serve the organisation and the region.
